How To Set NYR's & Stick To Them

Happy New Year!

Welcome to the time of year where we all sit down review the last 365 days and make BIG goals to change the way we live, eat and put pressure on ourselves to make change, all of this within the next 2 weeks, and live that way for the rest of the 351 days of 2018 - because well this is the year... the year it changes!

Did you know that 80% of people give up on their NYR by the 2nd of February. The reason most people don't stick with these, are they just set desires or fun things they wish would happen. The difference between that and a NYR, goal or intention is making a plan and getting clear and most importantly DOING THE WORK EVERY SINGLE DAY!

Now we put all this pressure on ourselves but lets stop and think for a minute, what has the last few weeks been like? Have we eaten and drunk more than normal?  Now we expect ourselves to cut everything out... Well we can but we will have massive cravings and most likely not stick to it and then beat ourselves up over it. So what if we took small steps every single today to work towards the big goal, like the first week drinking more water, swapping processed breads and grains for unrefined foods. Working out or adding movement into our daily lives, it doesn't have to be extreme, a simple walk or gentle yoga class - remember to make these goals realsitic for you and your lifestyle.

Below are my top questions to ask yourself and tips to stick to NYR's

1) Frist accept and appreciate where you are RIGHT NOW - with self compassion and love

2) Get clear, and I mean CRYSTAL clear on what you want to achieve. Focus on feelings (waking up energised, feeling confident) rather than numbers (like dress size or scales). Write these down, tell a friend and read over them often.

3) WHY? Get clear on what is your why behind these goals/vision. Why is this so important to achieve for you?

4) How will you get there? Make a plan - will you meal prep? Will you join the gym, get a coach? Will you start eating breakfast or swapping refined sugars for coconut sugar or unprocessed foods ect? Maybe do some inner work to clear some blocks. The plan is IMPORTANT as a goal without a plan is just a dream!

5) What strategies and resources will you have in place? There will be hard days, times you want to give up and throw the towel in - that's life! So having strategies in place to help you when these arise will keep you on the wagon or help you get back on the wagon when you fall.

6) Notice without judgment -  notice if you are in self judgement or comparison mode  - "oh that's interesting - I'm not thinking or talking to myself like that anymore". Just notice, thats the first step, then choose differently.

7) Gratitude - Be grateful for everything that you already have every single day! Celebrate the small wins, the micro wins daily and set your focus on them rather than the losses.

8) Be diligent - commitment every dam day, about monitoring your thoughts, beliefs, words and actions.

9) NEVER GIVE UP - Just keep swimming!
